Datuk Ewon Benedick
Minster of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, Malaysia
Datuk Ewon Benedick (born 1 August 1983) is currently serving as Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD), Malaysia in the Pakatan Harapan administration since December 2022. He became a Member of Parliament for Penampang in November 2022 and a Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kadamaian in May 2018. Prior to that, he served as State Minister of Rural Development of Sabah in the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN) administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal from May 2018 to September 2020. He is presently the youngest member of Anwar Ibrahim’s Cabinet.
He began his career as Research Executive at Institute for Indigenous Economic Progress Sabah while continuously developing and advancing strong ties with his grassroots communities. He was Sabah Rural Development Minister from 2018 to 2020. Combining Mr. Benedick’s sound experience with his passionate leadership, MECD under his stewardship continues to create a holistic and conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem to support Malaysia’s inclusive, sustainable, and competitive development agenda. This includes a focus on uplifting marginalised communities, including cultivating entrepreneurship amongst the youth, women, the B40 community, people with disabilities, rural and remote populations, minorities, and local communities.
Mr. Benedick received his Bachelor’s in Computer Science (Software Development) from the University Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UteM) in 2005.
